"Improvisation 6 (African)" (1909) is a striking example of Wassily Kandinsky’s transition toward abstraction. Part of his Improvisations series, this work embodies the early stages of Expressionism with bold, dynamic forms and a vivid palette. Inspired by African motifs and rhythms, the painting showcases figures draped in flowing garments, engaged in an enigmatic interaction. The background pulses with vibrant blues, yellows, reds, and greens, creating a sense of movement and energy.

Kandinsky’s brushwork is expressive, and his use of color is highly symbolic, reflecting his belief in the emotional and spiritual power of art. The lack of defined forms and the emphasis on expressive composition foreshadow his full embrace of abstraction in the years to come. Housed at the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus in Munich, this piece is an essential work for collectors of early Expressionism and the evolution of abstract art.
